Here's how Postini works:
First, we have to setup your account at Postini. There we specify the ip address of your email server, users and aliases. Next, we/you have to change your domain names MX record to point to Postini's servers. After that's done, when someone sends a message it goes directly to Postini and they analyze the message. If it tests positive for spam or a virus, they quarantine the message on their servers. If it test negative (good email), they will send it to your email server instantly.
Note: Admininistrators and users can login to check spam quarantines just in case a good message slips by. False positives do occur, but it's rare!
After we make changes to your MX record, it may take a few days before the entire Internet notices the changes! In most cases, it's instantaneous.
